Lead with your ears ...

Hello Again!

I typically like to write to you using real life experiences to demonstrate how the Holy Bible is truly alive and can be applied to daily living. But, this week will be a little different – a little on the lighter side of which I hope you will enjoy --- while still illustrating how we can act on what we read. Although this is not noted as a true story, the point just could not be overlooked ...

But Officer

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street.

"But officer," the man said, "I can explain."

"Just be quiet," snapped the officer, "or I’m going to let you cool off in jail until the chief gets back."

The man said, "but officer, I just wanted to say..."

The officer cut him short. "I said KEEP QUIET! You’re going to jail!"

A few hours later, the officer checked up on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you, the chief is at his daughter’s wedding. He’ll be in a good mood when he gets back."

"Don’t count on it," said the man in the cell..."I’m the groom!"

Did you chuckle as I did? Yet how easy it is to press ahead in haste, especially in our fast paced culture. After my giggles stopped, I immediately thought of this:

“He who answers before listening --- that is his folly and his shame.”
Proverbs 18:13 NIV

Much embarrassment and awkwardness will be avoided when we put the Word into practice:

“ … Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let your gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life.”
James 1:19-21 The Message

I hope you find this as helpful as I did and continue to allow God to work within you. As always, I’d love to hear from you!

“… I want not only to share my faith with you but to be encouraged by yours: each of us will be a blessing to the other."
Romans 12:1b The Message

Blessings …
