LESSON 6 – Something Extra - Joseph

Joseph: protector, patient, provider …

Life synopsis … Joseph was working toward his goal to be married when his fiancĂ©es
purity was unexpectedly compromised. He could have easily thought Mary was sabotaging his efforts. Yet, being a righteous man, he wanted to protect her reputation. When he thought she had been unfaithful to him, he planned to quietly end the relationship. God’s plan prevailed when Joseph willingly responded to a divine dream. He put his own reputation at risk, married Mary, and then patiently waited to consummate the marriage while providing for her and a baby not his own.

Matthew 1:24 NIV
Words are not mere words, you know. If they're not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul.

Let’s practice … What are your life goals? How would you respond if someone close to you seemingly sabotaged your efforts? Would you willingly change your life course based on an inspired dream? Have you had an ‘ah ha’ moment where you “woke up,” finally understanding what the Lord would have you do? How can you practice obedience to God’s dream for your life even now?

Personal Reflections …

5 Women of Genealogy - Lesson 4

LESSON 4 - Uriah’s wife (Bathsheba)
BATHSHEBA: Married woman ordered to become an adulterer, yet the mother of the wisest king that ever lived …

Life synopsis … Bathsheba came from an upper class family, including a husband and father named among King David’s mighty men (ref 2 Samuel 11:3), as well as a grandfather who was King David’s counselor (ref 2 Samuel 15:12). Little is known of her personally, except that she obeyed ceremonial laws (ref 2 Samuel 11:4) and the King’s order, which led to the wrongful deaths of her husband and child. Yet God’s redemptive kindness was seen when birthed through her came the wisest king that ever lived.

Read this ... 2 Samuel 11-12, 2 Samuel 23:23-24 & 39, 1 Chronicles 3:5, 1 Kings 10:23 (If you do not have a Bible handy, you can read it online at Biblegateway.com)

Key verse … Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23 NIV © 2011

Let’s practice … What injustices have you experienced? What grows in your heart as a result? How determined are you to seek the Lord and His justice?

Personal Reflections …
